DecoBird Barn Swallow

The barn swallow is an acrobatic passerine with a distinctive appearance: blue topside, red chin and crown, a long split tail, and curved wings. 

The swallow has adapted to nest almost exclusively in artificial structures, such as barns, lofts, garages and occasionally bridges and piers. The nest is in the shape of an open clay bowl lined with feathers.

Swallows short legs make them unsuitable for landing on the ground, meaning they spend most of their lives in flight, even preferring to drink during flight.

Swallows are one of the earliest returning migratory birds, often seen as a tiding of spring. The lovely trilling sound of its song is often interspersed with a rattling sound, while the warning sound is a loud 'chit'.

All the birds in the DecoBird series are hand-carved out of lime wood and painted using only water-based paints.
