About the Eurasian Woodcock
The Eurasian woodcock (Scolopax rusticola) was first described taxonomically in 1758 in Systema Naturae by Carl von Linné. It is a long-billed, round, and robust migratory bird with large eyes set far back on its head and a wingspan of 56–60 cm. Woodcocks have a thriving global population and breed primarily in Russia and Fennoscandia. During courtship, the male woodcock flies along a specific route at dusk, known as 'roding'. This circuit takes about 12 minutes and has been utilised in hunting.
