The superb fairy wren is a very common bird in south east Australia and Tasmania. Fully grown males have bright blue details while females and young males are greyish brown. The tail feathers are held upright and rarely kept still. The superb fairy wren is about 14 cm in length, of which 6 cm is the tail. They live in family groupings where only females incubate the eggs. The whole group feeds and protects the chicks, so the females can lay up to three broods in a season.
It prefers eating insects, seeds, flowers, and fruit.
